Conference Description:

This fall, five of the nation’s most respected labor arbitrators will address the labor law and labor arbitration issues that matter most to labor and management professionals. The educational approach combines legal theory with practical application, helping participants evaluate strategies, craft persuasive arguments, and effectively address workplace disputes. 
 
Throughout the day, faculty will cover evidence, contract interpretation, past practice, due process, insubordination, discipline and discharge, and effective arbitration advocacy. Sessions include lectures, panel discussions, and analysis of recent arbitration decisions, providing multiple learning formats to maximize participant engagement and understanding. 
 
Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and interact with faculty throughout the conference. We welcome you to Seattle and look forward to providing practical insights that will help you address your next grievance, arbitration case, or workplace issue with greater confidence and effectiveness. 

Faculty

All faculty members have decades of experience as labor arbitrators and enjoy teaching advocates who process grievances and prepare and present arbitration cases. 
 
Christopher Cameron is both a labor arbitrator and law professor at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. Following graduation from Harvard Law School, he practiced law in the private sector. 
 
Andrea Dooley is a distinguished labor arbitrator on the West Coast. She previously practiced labor law for both a major corporation and a large law firm and is a graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law. 
 
Jeffrey Jacobs is a former labor attorney and distinguished labor arbitrator. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School. 
 
John Kagel serves as umpire or arbitrator under several major labor agreements. He is a former president of the National Academy of Arbitrators and a graduate of UC Berkeley Law School. 
 
Barry Peek is an Arbitrator and Mediator with more than 40 years of labor and employment law experience representing unions in both the public and private sectors. He is a graduate of Hofstra University School of Law and teaches at Cornell ILR School. 

Recertification Credits

HRCI: This program has been approved for 07 HR (General) recertification credit hours toward aPHR™, aPHRi™, PHR®, PHRca®, SPHR®, GPHR®, PHRi™ and SPHRi™ recertification through HR Certification Institute® (HRCI®).

SHRM: This program has been approved for 07 PDCs credit hours toward SHRM-CPSM or SHRM-SCPSM recertification through SHRM.

CLE: This program may be eligible for CLE credit in your state. If you would like to self-report, we can provide you with the necessary materials.

The conference will be held at the Seattle Convention Center in downtown Seattle. This modern facility is easy to locate and navigate and is conveniently situated within walking distance of many of Seattle’s popular restaurants, attractions, and nightlife destinations.
